This workshop examines the critical role law enforcement plays in reporting, following up, and referring overdose victims in American Indian communities to mental health and substance abuse services. We will explore strategies to enhance collaboration between law enforcement and health providers, address systemic challenges, and develop culturally sensitive approaches

The purpose of this workshop is to present the 2024 State Advisory Council on Indian Education (SACIE) Report to all attending stakeholders. This session will cover key state-level reading, math, and science findings, highlighting trends and insights impacting American Indian students in North Carolina. Additionally, we will discuss the 2024 recommendations, which align with the NC State Board of Education's vision of equity, ensuring that all students have the support they need to thrive.

We invite you to participate in an interactive focus group to provide your insights on how UNC Pembroke’s School of Southeast American Indian Studies, along with its affiliated units – American Indian Heritage Center, Department of American Indian Studies, and Museum of the Southeast American Indian – can support tribal sovereignty and self-determination, preserve tribal histories and culture, foster collaborative partnerships, and address the educational and professional needs of Native communities.
