Thank you for considering supporting the 2025 NC American Indian Unity Conference by developing a workshop proposal.

 

The 50th Anniversary Unity Conference provides a forum to address health, education, social, cultural, political, spiritual, and economic issues relevant to the American Indian population of North Carolina. The conference brings together national, state, local and tribal leaders to discuss celebrations and concerns, identify resources, and develop strategic solutions to advocate around issues facing North Carolina’s first citizens, American Indians, from a holistic perspective.

Theme: The 2025 conference theme is “United Tribes – 50 Years of Tribal Unity.” Workshop proposals should support and reflect the conference theme.  

 

Submission: To submit a proposal, complete and submit the online workshop proposal application form and attach a bio of all workshop presenters and speakers, Deadline for workshop proposal is no later than December 2, 2024. Workshop Guidelines:

  • One hour and fifteen minutes is allocated for each workshop.

  • The workshop coordinator, moderator, or speaker/presenter should plan to check their assigned workshop area in advance of the workshop to make any final adjustments necessary.

  • The workshop coordinator, moderator, or speaker/presenter should plan to leave 5-10 minutes at the end of their session to leave time for participants to complete workshop evaluations.

  • Audio-visual equipment such as laptops, projectors, screens, speakers, markers and flip charts are provided by United Tribes. All workshop equipment & materials must be provided by the workshop coordinator.If assistance with equipment is necessary, please contact Kara Stewart at unitedtribesofnc@gmail.com. After your proposal has been approved, you will be required to confirm that you have all required AV equipment necessary for your presentation.

  • Workshop room will be set up theater style - head table and rows of chairs facing the head table. If you have a different set up need, please contact Kara Stewart at unitedtribesofnc@gmail.com.

Proposal Evaluation Process—United Tribes will evaluate proposals per the following criteria:

General relevance to the conference attendees or audience, conference theme and United Tribes priorities.

  1. Whether the proposed workshop reflects the personal, professional or research interests of the conference attendees.

  2. Effectiveness or completeness of information provided in the proposal application – information must be clearly stated and in keeping with the conference theme, issues before the Indian community, and time allotted for the workshop.

  3. Whether the proposed workshop application addresses current or emerging issues affecting American Indians tribes, and/or organizations.

 

Terms and Conditions for workshop proposals: The individual who develops the workshop proposal is considered the workshop coordinator and will be expected to:

  1. Select and confirm workshop moderator and workshop speakers/presenters and submit that information online, along with the rest of your complete workshop proposal application form by December 2, 2024.

  2. Obtain brief bios for all workshop speakers/presenters and submit them online along with the workshop proposal application.

  3. Determine audio visual equipment needs for the workshop. (United Tribes does NOT provide such equipment; therefore, the workshop coordinator must secure such equipment for workshops, deliver the equipment to the hotel on the first day of the conference or bring that equipment with you to the conference and allow sufficient time to set up your equipment. Equipment must be set up and tested 30 minutes prior to the workshop). If assistance with equipment is necessary, please contact Kara Stewart at unitedtribesofnc@gmail.com.

  4. Meet with moderator and speakers/presenters in assigned workshop room prior to workshop, greet moderator and speakers/presenters, and assign seating at head table. Assist with setting up AV equipment if needed. 

  5. Due to budget constraints, United Tribes cannot pay travel expenses, hotel rooms, conference registration etc. for workshop coordinators or speakers/presenters. There is not a registration fee for coordinators, speakers/presenters who are only attending the conference for their workshop. However, if they will be attending the entire or a portion of the rest of the conference, a registration fee must be paid. A block of rooms has been reserved for March 6 - 8, 2025. The special room rate of $159.00 per night + tax will be available until February 5, 2025 or the group block  sold out prior to deadline.  *A DEPOSIT OF ONE NIGHT ROOM AND TAXES IS DUE AT THE TIME OF BOOKING TO GUARANTEE THE ROOM. THIS IS REFUNDABLE IF THE RESERVATION IS CANCELLED BEFORE 72 HOURS PRIOR TO THE DATE OF ARRIVAL.
